When Paul shares the story of his youngest sister, Massielle, he reflects on her outgoing and happy personality that refused to give up despite the difficulties of raising three children within a system that failed to respond to the violence she experienced behind closed doors.

On May, 27, 2010, Massielle’s ex-husband shot and killed her. Paul remembers how the violence and abuse Massielle experienced from her spouse consumed her with fear.

Now Paul is raising Massielle’s three energetic and talented children, whose interests range from photography and ballet to guitar and basketball.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been traveling to New York City to participate in the #NoLoveInViolence campaign with Sanctuary For Families and my good friend Brittany Ashton.

Pity Sex | Acid Reflex

Burned a hole in my stomach. An acid reflex. Got another pill incoming. An acrid redux. Do you love me? Peptic bubbling? Slick and soothing. My acidic need. Sick on alcohol and aspirin. Atomic liver. Slipped a kiss I couldn’t stay for. Anaphylactic shiver. Do you love me?  Peptic bubbling?  Slick and soothing. My need. Filled up. Spilled down. Splitting seams. I’m better now. Ruptured spleen. Plastered frown. Toxic life. I’m better down.  I need love. I need drugs. I need looks. I need God. I need comfort. I need fortune. I need something.
